Mr. Carl A. Miller, 75, of Galesburg went into Heaven from his home, surrounded by loved ones, at 10:05 p.m., Monday, May 27, 2019.

He was born December 4, 1943 in Galesburg to Carl L. and Hazel E. (McQueen) Miller. He married Kathryn M. Gladson on March 6, 1971.

Carl is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Galesburg; five children Tom (Christy) Bates of Peoria, Arizona; Marc (Megan) Miller of Naples, Florida; Kimberly (Chip) Timmons of Galesburg; Amy Miller of Galesburg, and Emylee Miller of Galesburg; one brother Alan (Joanne) Miller of Maricopa, Arizona; and two sisters Claudia Eskridge of Alpha, and Marilee (Bill) DeVena of Cameron; sister-in-law Kay Miller of Knoxville and brother-in-law Steven Bennett of Colchester. Also surviving are six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, all who were very much loved by Carl.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Anita Bennett and brother Daniel Miller.

Carl was raised and educated in Galesburg. He served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era, ending his military career at the rank of Specialist E-5. He was employed at Butler Manufacturing Company for 43 years.  Carl was baptized and joined the Catholic faith.  He and Kathy renewed their marriage vows in a Catholic ceremony on March 7, 2019.  He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He enjoyed watching his children’s sports activities, being a reading buddy at Gale and King Schools, and traveling with Kathy.  He loved his family and put them before anything else in his life.  Carl had the biggest heart, the best smile and the quickest wit.  Carl was a member of the Galesburg Elks Lodge #894 and the Galesburg American Legion.

Funeral Services for Carl will be Noon Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00-Noon Thursday at the chapel. Rev. Jacob Rose is officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Galesburg Elks Lodge #894, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry or a charity of the donor‘s choice. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
