James N. “Bud” Holloway, 85, of Galesburg, died at 5:29 a.m. Sunday, May 26, 2019 in Methodist Hospital at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

He was born December 24, 1933, in Galesburg, the son of Maurice Kain and Marguerite (McHugh) Holloway.  He married Kathryn L. Cadwell on August 22, 1955, in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death on July 4, 2003.

He is survived by three children, Sherry (George) Bican of Galesburg, Jody (David) Reynolds of Aurora, Colorado, and Mike (Maureen) Holloway of Galesburg; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Hallstrom, Nichol Pogue, David Bican, Andy Holloway, Ben Holloway, John David Reynolds, and Katie Reynolds; five great grandchildren, Tyler Hallstrom, Kayla Hallstrom, Lillian Pogue, Kimberly Pogue, and Jake Hallstrom; and his very special friend, Dorothy Mitchell.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two half-brothers, Jack and Sonny Clayton; and a half-sister, Marguerite Johnson.

Bud was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1951.  He earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University in 1957.  Bud was a teacher in Elmhurst Public Schools for 10 years.  He then worked as a sales manager for McMillan Publishing Company for 18 years.  After living in the Chicago area for more than 20 years, he returned to Galesburg in 1974.  He went back to teaching, where he taught at Henry Hill Correctional Center for nine years before retiring in 1999.

Bud served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1952.  He was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285, the Vesper Masonic Lodge, and the Moose Lodge.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2019 at the chapel with Rev. Bob Wakefield officiating.  Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Foursquare Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
