Paula K. Bailey, age 87, of Gladstone, Illinois passed away at 5:03 PM
on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Great River Hospice House in Burlington,
Iowa. She was born on June 19, 1921 in Gladstone, Illinois, the daughter
of Paul Melvin and Dorothy Alice (Kessinger) Rhoades. She attended
school in the Gladstone Community and graduated from Gladstone High
School. On October 6, 1951, Paula married Raymond L. “Pete” Bailey and
he preceded her in death on May 28, 2016. Paula was employed as a cook
at Union High School, at I.R.C. Electronics, Midwest Biscuit, and
Antennacraft in West Burlington, Iowa, from which she retired in 1996.
After retirement, she enjoyed serving meals to seniors with the
Henderson County Health Department. Paula enjoyed mushrooming, reading,
visiting, and helping her friends around Gladstone. Most of all, Paula
loved her family and her grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of the
United Methodist Church of Gladstone where she taught Sunday School for
years. Paula is survived by one daughter, Luann Walker of Gladstone,
Illinois, three sons; Bob (Barb) Bailey of Gladstone, Illinois, Mike
(Debra) Bailey of Oquawka, Illinois, and Jay (Sherry) Bailey, also of
Oquawka, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is one sister, Pauline Russell of West Burlington, Iowa
and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents,
husband “Pete”, one sister, Sherry Reed, and one son, Jerry Bailey.

A funeral service is planned for 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at
Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Family will be present for
visitation from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, May 13, 2019 also at the funeral
home. Interment will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial fund is
being established for the Gladstone Methodist Church. For more
