Wilfred E. “Bill” O’Brien, 82, of Alexis, IL, passed away at 1:05 a.m., Monday, May 27, 2019 at the Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center, Galesburg. IL.

He was born on October 14, 1936 in Galesburg, IL, the son of Robert L. and Bernice (Gibson) O’Brien.  Bill was raised and educated in Alexis and graduated from Alexis High School in 1955. 

Bill married Patricia A. “Patsy” Mullinix on September 10, 1955 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Alexis; she survives. 

Bill drove a truck for many years and also served as the Spring Grove Township Road Commissioner for 16 years.  He enjoyed working in his yard and visiting with his family and friends. 

Surviving Bill is his wife, Patsy O’Brien of Alexis, IL; three children, Donald (Karen) O’Brien of Peoria, IL, Stormy (Danny) Steinbrook of St. Louis, MO, Shelley (Terry Cameron) Shepherd of Alexis, IL; one brother, Kenny (Mary Jane) O’Brien of Monmouth, IL, and one sister, Alice McVey of Aledo, IL.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jeni (Trent) Simkins, Jeremy O’Brien, Joe Shepherd, Matt Shepherd; three great grandchildren, Brea and Kealy Simkins, Wayne O’Brien; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert D. O’Brien; one sister-in-law, Mary O’Brien. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2019 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Alexis, IL.  A Rosary Service will be at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2019 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, with visitation to follow until 7:30 p.m.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the Mass.  A private family interment will be in Alexis Cemetery, Alexis, IL at a later date.  Memorials can be made to Hope Lodge, Iowa City, IA.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com.
