Mrs. Shirley Jean Tweedel-Baughman-Sherrer, 87, of Galesburg died at 12:36 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2019 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born November 18, 1931 in Biggsville, Illinois to Kirk and Ailene (Mote) Tweedel.
Shirley is survived by her son, Tommy Baughman of Springfield, Illinois; one brother, Harold Tweedel; five grandchildren, Tamara Baughman-Valencia, Lori Baughman, Taylor (Jacob) Swartzlander, Tomas Calcano, and Paul Calcano; 15 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Phillip Sherrer; her daughter, Laura Calcano; and one granddaughter, Barbara Baughman-Hubbard.
In 1936 Shirley sang on live radio at 5 years old with her father. She loved singing and performing and spent her twenties traveling across many states performing at fairgrounds at other events. She sang with Patsy Cline at the Illinois State Fair in 1960. Aside from her music career, Shirley worked at Sangamo Electric in Springfield, Illinois for many years while waitressing on the side. Shirley was Jehovah Witness for all of her life.
Private family burial will take place at East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Worldwide Work of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
