Armando B. “Joe” Padilla, 72, of Galesburg, died at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2019 in the emergency room at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
Joe was born August 20, 1946 in Chicago, the son of Jose Navarro and Isabelle (Casillas) Padilla. He married Pamela Jean Nelson on December 26, 1967 in Galesburg. They were married for 51 years, she survives. Joe is also survived by two daughters, Melissa (Jeff) Roberts of Abingdon and Amy (Paul) Kosby of San Antonio, TX; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Also surviving Joe are two brothers; Anthony (Hope) Padilla and Richard Padilla; four sisters, Sally Ponce, Jennie (Lupe) Vasquez, Mary Jo Schaefer, and Elizabeth (David) Ewing all of Galesburg. Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by three brothers, Manuel, Edward “Eddie”, and Jesus “Pato” Padilla; two sisters, Helen Guerrero and Frances Cervantez; one grandson William Spratt, and several nieces and nephews.
Joe attended schools in Galesburg,
graduating in 1965. He worked at Maytag for 36 years retiring on December
31, 2003. After retiring from Maytag he worked for Goodwill in Galesburg
for 11 years, retiring in 2014. Joe was a lifelong member of St.
Patrick’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing music and had been since he was a
teenager, playing in many bands over the years, including,The Crystals, Joe
Padilla and Co., and Bits and Pieces. He loved spending time with friends
and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
No
visitation is planned. Joe’s funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June
11, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Church, Galesburg. Rev. William T. Miller will
officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children’s Milk Fund of Knox
County, ℅ Shirley Taylor, 724 W. First St., Galesburg or to St. Patrick’s
