Sammy Kaye DeJaynes, age 64, of rural Carman, Illinois, passed away at 3:16 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born June 11, 1959 in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Charles and Leota Twidwell DeJaynes. On March 5, 1999, he married Lisa Johnson in Burlington, Iowa.
Sam was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was employed at Industrial Service Corporation since June of 2021. Previously, he worked for Riley Paint Company for 12 years. His number one priority in life, was his family, and would do anything for them. He loved gardening, mowing, taking care of his flowers and his dogs, and was a loyal and dedicated fan of the Chicago Cubs. Sam was known most for his huge heart and compassion for other people.
Survivors include his wife, his parents of Dallas City, IL, one son: Nathan DeJaynes of Rockford, IL, one daughter: Lacey (Cody) Thacker of Biggsville, IL, two step-daughters: Samantha (Aaron) Magee of Raritan, IL, Ivory Heitmeier of Burlington, two grandchildren: Breanne Kidd and Keigan Thacker, two step-grandchildren, Conlee and Tatum Magee, and three siblings: Cindy Nelson of Kansas City, MO, Russell (Anitra) DeJaynes and Brenda (David) Covert both of Dallas City, IL. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, one niece: Tiffany Bangel, and his best friend: Mike Jacobs.
The funeral for Mr. DeJaynes will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Burial will follow in the Carman Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at Banks & Beals. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the family.
