Citizen’s Advisory Committee Has Second Meeting on What to Do with Warren Co. jail

Share

The Warren County Citizen’s Advisory Committee met Monday to decide what to do with the current Warren County jail and are considering two options.
The first option is to build a new jail at a different location. This is due to the current jail being less than 200 feet from a school, which is in violation of State law.
The second option is to contract with other counties to transport Warren County inmates, a decision that might not be viable if neighboring counties decline to house Warren County inmates.
Citizen’s Advisory Committee Chairman Chip Algren said that while progress was made during the meeting, there is still more work to be done.

“The finalization of this is down the road a-ways. We still have more information to gather, then the committee will make a recommendation to the county board, and then ultimately it’s the county board that makes the decision.”

If the decision to build a new jail is reached by the county board, it would be put on referendum, which would likely not happen until 2022.
