Darrell D. Schoonover, 64, of Galesburg, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2019 in Roseville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born June 7, 1955, in Galesburg, the son of Darrell Dean and Charlotte (Lough) Schoonover.

He is survived by his brother, Charlie Schoonover of Galesburg; nieces; an aunt and uncle; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.

Darrell lived at the Murray Youth Center in Southern Illinois for 13 years during his younger years. He returned to Galesburg at the age of 23, living at St. Mary’s Square for many years before transferring to Mims House. He enjoyed his time at workshop at KCCDD over the years. Darrell was fascinated with superheroes and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a loving soul of Christian faith.

Cremation will be accorded. A service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the Scattering Garden of East Linwood Cemetery. Pastor Mark Dexter will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions in Darrell’s name may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Association. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
