The Illinois Farm Bureau, together with the Warren-Henderson County Farm Bureau, Tri-County Cattleman’s Association and University of Illinois (U of I) Extension will host a field day Friday, Aug. 30 to showcase research efforts to improve nitrogen use efficiency.

“Our final summer 2019 field day is a great opportunity for local farmers and researchers to evaluate and discuss on-farm data from a nitrogen strip trial,” said Lauren Lurkins, Illinois Farm Bureau director of natural and environmental resources. “Farmers have the chance to soak up new knowledge that may be applicable on their own farms.”

The field day, which will be held at 1698 50th St., Kirkwood, Ill., will include presentations from the following:

  • Gina Long, Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau manager
  • Lauren Lurkins, director of natural and environmental resources, Illinois Farm Bureau
  • Jacob Baker, host farmer
  • Philip Alberti, commercial agriculture educator, U of I Extension
  • Haley Haverback, watershed outreach associate, U of I Extension

Join these partners as they evaluate and discuss on-farm data from a nitrogen strip trial. Learn about the Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy and what it means to Illinois farmers. This event will allow educators to share information on improving profitability via nitrogen management while also improving the understanding of the practices that minimize nitrogen losses.

The field day will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m.; lunch will be provided at no cost. The event is free. Registration is preferred but not required. The Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau can be reached at 309-734-9401 or whfb@whfarmbureau.org.
