The Warren County Public Health Department is offering a variety of events and services to local residents.
The Warren County Public Health Department is at the end of hosting their yearly program, ‘Warren County Out Walking’.
The program, offered over a six week span, is about getting in as many steps as possible, and tracking them throughout the program’s duration. Running, biking, and other modes of transportation are also accepted when recording steps.
The top three highest step counts will earn the winning spots, with prizes offered at the end of the program.
Kira Schumm, Community Health Coordinator at the Warren County Health Department, talks about the benefits of sticking to the program…
“So the other benefit for this program, is for those who turn in their steps weekly, for six weeks, we provide the entry fee that the cost of the 5k that the Prime Beef Festival is associated with, and I think they call that the Fall Festival 5k? So we have quite a few people signed up for that, I think there are 19 of us who are going to go out to that and do the 5K. So there’s several incentives to the program, but mainly to be moving and to be healthy.”
The Warren County Health Department is also running general lab work for residents of Warren County.
Lab testing can be done for a variety of reasons, from general curiosity to mandatory blood testing for employers. Tests offered that don’t require an order from a doctor include lipid panels for cholesterol, blood glucose, Hemoglobin A1C, thyroid testing, complete blood count, lead level count, and metabolic panels.
Kira Schumm talks about the discounted lab program offered…
“Twice a year we provide discounted labs, so that is actually coming up October 1st. That is going to run the first two weeks of October, and so we give four different labs for $60. That includes a full lipid panel, hemoglobin A1C, comprehensive metabolic panel, and complete blood count, and that’s for $60.”
