Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 10, 2019

Soccer

The Macomb Bomber soccer team defeated Abingdon-Avon 12-0 in Macomb last night in high school soccer.

It was Galesburg over Peoria Christian 5-0. Steve Mulimi had a pair of goals for Galesburg. Kyle Smith recorded the shutout in goal for the Silver Streaks, who are now (6-1) overall on the season.

Volleyball

Kewanee beat ROWVA 25-5, 25-18. Henry-Senachwine defeated Williamsfield 25-19, 25-23 and it was Brimfield over Wethersfield in straight sets as well, 25-21, 25-20.

Junior High

West Prairie Junior High is hosting a tournament at Friendway Park in Colchester this week. ICS, West Central and Abingdon-Avon are some of the teams taking part. ICS’s Leo Mahoney and Jake Steele combined for a no-hitter in the Trojans first round game. Mahoney had eight strikeouts in his three innings of work and Steele totaled four of his own in his two innings on the mound. Steele and Zach Almaguer had two hits each, with Almaguer also getting three rbis. ICS would fall to Carthage in the winner’s bracket semi-finals, 1-0 in eight innings. Tyler Jones had two of the four hits for the Trojans. ICS will now play the 3rd place game on Saturday at noon. The West Central Heat lost both of their games in the tournament and will play for 7th at 10am on Saturday. The Heat fell to Carthage 3-1. Kyle Lafary and Gage Stimpson had the lone hits for West Central in the opener. The Heat were beaten by Liberty in the nightcap, 6-2. Again, West Central found some troubles at the plate, as they get three hits as a team.

The United Red Storm junior high baseball team shutout ROWVA 17-0. The Red Storm pound out 20 hits, led by Derrick Sargeant’s 4-for-5 night at the plate. Carter Rothzen was 3-for-4. The Red Storm are (7-3) on the season.
