Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 20, 2019

Volleyball

The Galesburg Silver Streak volleyball team picked up their second Western Big Six Conference win last night at Rock Island Alleman. The Streaks took care of the Pioneers with a 25-14, 25-19 victory. Lauren Livingston totaled four kills and a block. Maddie Carlson dished out 16 saves and Brynn Atwell had three digs and an ace. Galesburg is (7-8) overall and (2-5) in the Big Six.

Soccer

After a scoreless first half, the Galesburg Silver Streak boys soccer team shutout Abingdon-Avon 3-0.

Golf

The United Red Storm girls golf team improved to (10-0) on the season after getting a pair of wins over Knoxville and Farmington. United set a new school record in the process, shooting a team score of 179. Paige McKeown was the meet medalist with a 40. Emily Grodjesk and Claire Carnes were also in the 40’s with a 42 and 46, respectively. Knoxville shot a 233 and was led by Kaci Luptak’s 44.

The United boys golf team is (15-2) overall after beating Knoxville 172-189. Caleb Copeland shot a career-best 40 to claim meet medalist honors. Drew Brown added a 42 and Dyhlan Hepner shot a 43 for United as well.. Titus Cramer, Damian Jones and Kolton Mingo all shot 47’s for Knoxville.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 7th grade girls defeated West Central 32-9. Leading scorer for the Titans was Brianna Woodard with 14 points. The 8th grade Lady Titans were down by 16 at half, but made some halftime adjustments got them back within 5 pts with a minute left in the game, but it wasn’t enough and the Heat would eventually prevail 43-40. Meyah Hunter had 13 pts and Elise Blaesing added 12 pts for Monmouth-Roseville.

Play began in the ICS 7th grade tournament in Monmouth. United played Mercer County in the first game of the night with United winning 33-15. Emma Robinson was the leading scorer with 12 points for United. ICS played Churchill in the second game of the nigh. ICS lost a 32-28 overtime heartbreaker. ICS’s Addison Gillen was the leading scorer with 16 points.
