Red Crown Rot Starting to Infest Western Illinois Soy Crops

Share

The University of Illinois Ag Extension is looking for a new crop disease called Red Crown Rot that has entered soy bean fields in Western Illinois.

Commercial Ag Extension Coordinator Dr. Chelsea Harbach says the Extension is looking to take samples of the disease to send to the U of I campus for analysis.

Dr. Harbach details the symptoms:

“Soy beans that are going to down early, you might seem so introvenal chlorosis or yellowing, and some white or red growth on the lower stem. In some cases they are finding it in association with red midge which looks different than the gall midge, so you might look for the red midge as well.”

If you see any symptoms of Red Crown Rot in your soy bean crops, contact Dr. Harbach by phone at 815-275-1572.
