Local Junior High and High School Sports Update for Oct. 2, 2019

Volleyball

The Galesburg Silver Streak volleyball team dropped yet another 3-set match in Western Big Six Conference action last night, this time at home vs. Quincy. The Streaks fall to the Blue Devils 25-13, 23-25, 25-14 to drop to (4-9) in the Big Six and (9-12) overall. Five of Galesburg’s nine losses have went the distance.

In the Prairieland Conference, Knoxville beat Farmington in a North Division contest.

Macomb had no trouble with BPC, getting a 25-13, 25-6 victory. Avery Rexroat handed out 17 assists, Kennedy Adair smashed seven kills and Maggie Vallillo hustled her way to 13 digs. Macomb is (19-5) overall.

Williamsfield beat Ridgewood 25-23, 25-13 for their first Lincoln Trail Conference victory. Molly Warner had nine kills for the (5-16) Lady Bombers. Gionna Ott had 21 assists and 11 digs to lead Williamsfield in those categories. Tatum Miller had four kills, Brecken Adamson had three assists and Madi Jones had 11 digs for (5-15) Ridgewood.

Soccer

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys soccer team tied Moline at 1-1 after double overtime couldn’t get a winner. Isaiah Mowen scored in the first half for Galesburg. Kyler Smith made 13 saves. The Silver Streaks are (2-3-1) in the Western Big Six and (8-6-1) overall. We’ll have Galesburg on the PCSN tomorrow night as they host Monmouth-Roseville for a non-conference match on the artificial turf field at Galesburg High School. The AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM pregame show will start at 4:15.

Cross Country

Macomb High School hosted a cross country invitational at Spring Lake yesterday. The host school won both the boys and girls division team titles. United was 7th on the boys side and 4th on the girls side, with Monmouth-Roseville finishing 7th in the girls standings. In the boy’s race, Carlos Serratos got a top-10 finish, getting 9th. His teammate, Joe Rivera, was 13th. United’s Ben McVey was 42nd. United’s Anne Gregory claimed the girls individual title. Bridget Brokaw was 8th for United as well. Monmouth-Roseville got a top-10 from Stella Narkiewicz. For Macomb, Olivia Bishop was 3rd on the girls side and Stan Melkumian was 3rd as well for the boys.

Golf

Westview Golf Course in Quincy was the site for the West Central Conference’s boys golf championship yesterday. The host school, Quincy Notre Dame, earned the team championship by having the top four scoring individuals, totaling 299. Alex McCulla led all golfers with a score of 70. Macomb placed 2nd with a 315. Following the top four QND golfers, the Bombers had the next six golfers, led by Conner Hamm in 5th. Monmouth-Roseville was 5th with a team score of 396. Reese Kane and Tyler Sells each shot a 92 to lead Mon-Rose.

The United Red Storm girls golf team’s successful season continued last night as the Storm defeated Sherrard 216-252. United’s Paige McKeown was the meet medalist with a 50. She was joined in the scoring quartet by Emily Grodjesk’s 51, Haley Marshall’s 54 and Gabby Neice’s 61.

Junior High

In junior high girls basketball, ICS 7th grade defeated Rowva 30-9. Addison Gillen had 12 points & Ady Schisler had 10 for the winning Trojans. ICS 8th Grade won 38-36 in overtime. Reece Bertelsen was the leading scorer with 16 points for ICS.
