Fire Prevention Week Beginning Monday in Monmouth

Share

Fire Prevention Week starts today and continues through October 12.
Dan Chard of the Monmouth Fire Department tells us the purpose of Fire Prevention Week:

“It’s an opportunity for the Fire Department to go out into the public and speak to adults and children as well and speak in regards to what issues they may have to encounter as far as fire safety is concerned.”

Chard says they work with children on basic fire safety like stop, drop, and roll; what a smoke detector sounds like it; and when it is appropriate to call 911.
Chard also says to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, knowing where fire extenguishers are located and having them serviced. MFD says to not burn leaves next to structures, and City ordinance says burning can only be from noon to eight pm with no burning on Sunday.
