Knox Women’s Golf Competes at SLIAC Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Illinois—The Prairie Fire women’s golf team played in their first SLIAC Championship on Monday.

Knox is currently in fifth place out of 10 teams after shooting a 360 in the first round.

Shelby Keen carded a 77 and is in third place after one round. Her score was one of three scores to break the previous low score of 78 in the SLIAC Championship.

Sam Nichols also earned her way into the SLIAC record book by draining a hole-in-one on the 14th hole. It was first ever ace in SLIAC Championship play. She is also currently in 14th place after shooting an opening round 84.

“We had a great first round in our first ever SLIAC Championship,” said head coach KC Harding. “I am so proud of Sam for getting a hole-in-one and Shelby for a well played first round. We will get back to work tomorrow to finish strong.”

The Prairie Fire will head into the final round tomorrow and will try to jump up the leaderboard.
