Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 18, 2019

Volleyball

The Lincoln Trail Conference championship race is coming down to the wire. Three schools have seperated themselves from the rest of the 11 team field. All three were in action last night and the order of the standings between the three remained the same as they were coming into the night. The United Red Storm beat Wethersfield 25-15, 25-14. The Red Storm are (23-4) overall and (7-1) in the LTC. Annawan remained tied with United for 2nd place in the standings after their 25-15, 25-20 win over Ridgewood.

The Princeville Princesses are still in 1st place at (8-0) in league play after defeating West Central last night 25-10, 25-16. West Central fell to (15-12-1) overall and (5-4) in the Lincoln Trail.

Elsewhere in LTC play last night, ROWVA got their first conference victory, beating Stark County in three sets and Williamsfield beat Galva 25-10, 25-14.

Also on the local volleyball schedule last night, Illini West clinched the championship of the Prairieland Conference’s South Division. The Chargers are now (26-6) overall and end their division schedule with an undefeated record of (6-0), one game ahead Lewistown at (5-1).

Cross Country

The Western Big Six Conference held its cross country championship meet in Quincy yesterday. The Moline Maroons are the team champs with the Maroon’s Lylia Gomez earning the individual championship. The Galesburg Silver Streaks placed 6th as a team but the Streaks did have a pair of girls make the all-conference list. Breanna Admire was a first-team member with a 9th place finish and Emma Hawkinson made the 2nd team with a 16th place finish. In the boy’s race, United Township is your 2019 team champion, with Galesburg placing 7th. Quincy’s Fiker Rosen garnered the individual conference championship. Galesburg’s Ben Vazquez was a first-team all-conference runner with a finish of 7th.

Swimming and Diving

Monmouth-Roseville’s swim team took part in a meet in Macomb last night. The Titans got a victory from Addie Smith in the 100 yard breaststroke.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade Lady Titans girls basketball team defeated the Orion Chargers 42-16. Leading scorers for the Titans were Tatianna Talivaa and Mia Reynolds with 13 points each. The overall record for Monmouth-Roseville is now 9-0 and they are 2-0 in Prairieland Conference play. The 8th grade Lady Titans defeated the Orion Chargers 34-16. Leading scores for the Titans Ashya Bates with 11pts and Brianna Woodard and Cori Izquierdo with 6pts each. The Titan 7th gread team’s overall record is now 8-3 and 1-1 in conference play.
