Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 4, 2019

Soccer

The host Galesburg Silver Streaks posted a 3-0 victory over Monmouth-Roseville in boys soccer action Thursday afternoon. The Streaks had just five shots in the first half, but two of them found the back of the net. Paul-Emile Peronard got on the back end of a cross and started the scoring nine minutes into the contest. Five minutes later, Isaiah Mowen’s free kick to the far post connected with Steven Mulimi, who headed it in for a 2-0 lead. Galesburg’s other goal came in the second half off a penalty kick situation. M-R goalie Dylan Corrales stopped the initial shot by Jessie Rivera, but Rivera beat him to the rebound and gave the Streaks a 3-0 lead with 28:05 left in the game. The Streaks held a 10-9 edge in shots for the game. Austin Hall posted the shutout, making three saves. Monmouth-Roseville, who fall to (10-7-2) goes to Peoria Central on Saturday, while the now (9-6-1) Silver Streaks take part in the Belvidere Tournament.

Abingdon-Avon tied Galesburg Christian at 3-all. Scoring for A-Town was Myles Shreeves, Ricky Torres and Treyce Brooks.

Volleyball

The Macomb Bomber volleyball team garnered their 20th win of the season against just five losses with a 25-21, 25-22 win over Southeastern. Tatumn Lantz smashed seven kills for Macomb. Genna McCamant and Maggie Vallillo each totaled 15 digs and Avery Rexroat had 21 assists.

In other volleyball last night, Knoxville lost Elmwood and West Prairie knocked off BPC 25-16, 25-7.

Golf

The Macomb girls lost to Quincy at Westview Golf Course 169-179. Emma Thorman led Macomb with a 41.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball teams swept BPC in a pair of games. The 7th grade Lady Titans defeated the Spartans 26- 15. Leading scorers for the Titans was Tatianna Talivaa with 10 points and Brianna Woodard with 8 points. The 8th grade Lady Titans defeated Bushnell 40-8. Leading for the Titans was Meyah Hunter with 10 pts and Gracie Oma with 8pts. Monmouth-Roseville’s 8th grade is now (4-1) overall.

The ICS Trojans also got a sweep last night. The Lady Trojan 7th grade beat West Central 25-7. Ady Schisler led ICS with ten points. The ICS 8th grade defeated the Heat 47-32. Reece Bertelsen had 16 to lead ICS, while Shelby Bowman had 26 for West Central.

In junior high football last night, the Monmouth-Roseville Titan 8th grade took on Knoxville in Roseville in a rescheduled game from Tuesday night. Trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, Monmouth-Roseville’s Tyler Finnicum connected with Nico Avendano for a 30 yard touchdown pass. After the 2-point conversion, the Titans trailed 14-8 at the half. Knoxville would hold on for a 30-16 victory. Tanner Pollitt had a rushing touchdown for Monmouth-Roseville as well. The first game of the night pitted Monmouth-Roseville’s 7th grade team vs. Abingdon-Avon.
