Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 13, 2019:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior football player, Colton Russell. Colton played an important role in his team’s win over Peru St. Bede. On offense, he ran for 103 yards on 21 carries and scored all three touchdowns for the Titans. On defense, Colton also made five tackles, with three of those being solo stops.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is freshman boys cross country runner, Ben McVey. Ben was the highest finishing Red Storm boy’s runner at the recently completed Lincoln Trail Conference championship meet at Kewanee Dunes Golf Course. He ran the 3-mile race in 19:41 to place 28th in just his first year of high school competition.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior boys cross country runner, David Gaylord. David was the highest finishing Heat boy’s runner at the recently completed Lincoln Trail Conference championship meet at Kewanee Dunes Golf Course. He ran the 3-mile race in 20:05 to cross the finish line in 31st position.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore football player, Leighton Damewood. Leighton has had a great season on both sides of the ball for the Tornadoes but most recently, he’s been wreaking havoc on the defensive side. He totaled 14 tackles in a shutout win over Lewistown. He also ran an interception back for a touchdown against South Fulton.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls golfer, Kaylee Allen. Kaylee qualified for the Class 2A Sectional tournament by finishing 8th overall at the Galesburg regional at Lake Bracken Country Club. She carded a 96 over the par-72 course.
