Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 27, 2019:

Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior girls cross country runner, Stella Narkiewicz. Stella qualified for the Elmwood Sectional with a great run at the Mercer County Regional. She placed 17th out of 74 runners. Earlier in the week, she made the West Central Conference All Conference First Team with a 3rd place finish at the conference championship meet.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Jerzi Johnson. Jerzi was recently named to the Sherrard Invitational All-Tournament team for her performance and hustle on the court. That’s her second all-tournament team award this season, as she was on the list at the Orion Tournament, as well. Jerzi is willing to do whatever it takes to get her team a win, from diving on the court for important digs or playing defense at the net.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior football player, John Steck. John had a great season along both sides of the offensive and defensive lines this season. In the final game of the season against United, he did all he could do to get his team a win closer to a playoff berth. On defense, John wreaked havoc in the United backfield, totaling six tackles and two sacks.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Payton Florine. Payton had a big hand, literally, in the Lady Tornadoes two wins last week. She hammered a total of 24 kills in the two victories. Payton also contributed from the service line as well, with seven aces against Peoria Heights.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is freshman girls cross country runner, Briana Admire. Briana had a great start to her high school running career. She placed 9th in the Western Big Six Conference championship meet, earning her a spot on the 1st team all conference list. Then Briana qualified for the Class 2A sectionals by getting a 9th place in the regional meet.

Congrats to all of these student-athletes!! Thanks to our AOTW sponsors, MC Sport and More, McDonough Telephone Cooperative (mdtc), Tompkins State Bank and Kehoe Eye Care!!
