Arrest Made in Galesburg After Standoff

On Friday, November 1, 2019, at 2:15 a.m., Galesburg Police Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance with a weapon at 1749 E. Main Street, Galesburg, Illinois. Arriving officers were able to evacuate all occupants of the residence, except for a white male subject reported to have a handgun making threats to harm himself as well as his family and officers if they were to enter the residence. Neighbors on all sides of the residence were notified and given the opportunity to evacuate.

Officers, with the assistance of the Knox County Sheriff’s office, set up a perimeter around the residence and continued attempts to have a dialog with the subject inside and to resolve the situation in a satisfactory manner for all involved.

At approximately 11:50 a.m. on Friday, 29 year old, Michael J. McCabe was arrested by Galesburg Police for domestic battery, aggravated unlawful restraint, unlawful use of a weapon, and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.  McCabe was taken to the Knox County Jail for processing where he remains at this time.
