Knox Women’s Basketball Defeats Iowa Wesleyan, McCall Reaches 1,000 Points

GALESBURG, Illinois — The Knox Prairie Fire women’s basketball team defeated the Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers 92-50 on Wednesday night. 

Knox began the first quarter well with a 4-0 lead off a big jumper from Kyra Huffman and two made free throws from NaKeva Mack. The Prairie Fire kept the lead almost all quarter only allowing the Tigers to tie the game up three different times in seven minutes of play. Knox ended the quarter up 26-19.

Iowa Wesleyan was kept quiet in the second quarter with a total of only seven points scored. Knox ran the lead up by 11 with 18 points scored in the quarter. The Prairie Fire continued controlling the game going into the halftime break up 44-26. 

Knox started the half hot with a 22-4 point run in the first 6:40 of play. Iowa Wesleyan tried to start a comeback with a quick five points after the Prairie Fire’s run. It was not enough to start something as Knox continued to ramp up the score finishing the quarter up 72-40 

Knox kept on scoring in the fourth quarter with 20 more points scored in the last 10 minutes of play. Knox grew an even bigger lead and only allowed 10 points to Iowa Wesleyan. The Prairie Fire finished the game with a 92-50 victory.

Jarrelyn McCall led Knox with 14 points and six rebounds. She scored her 1,000th point near the end of the first quarter. Huffman added 13 points and eight boards and NaKeva Mack added 13 points and six rebounds.

“It was a great team win tonight,” said head coach Emily Cline. “A lot of good individual performances. I was especially happy for Jarrelyn getting her 1,000th point. It was nice as a team to put four quarters together. It was a solid 40 minute effort.”

Knox returns to action next week when they travel to Eureka on November 27.
