Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team got their season underway with a pool play game against Mercer County at the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament in Woodhull. The Titans blew open a close game in the second quarter by outscoring the Golden Eagles 24-8 on their way to a 36-20 halftime lead. Monmouth-Roseville would go on to win the game 62-44. The Titans were led by Ryley Huston’s 17 points. Also in double figures for Monmouth-Roseville was Carly Gillen with 13 and Lily Cundiff with 11. The Titans get back on the floor tonight with a 7:30 game against the United Township junior varsity squad. The Panther JV is (0-1) after getting throttled by BPC 44-13 on the opening night of the tournament on Monday. The United Red Storm gave Orion all they could handle before falling 36-31. Orion led 10-5 after the first quarter and maintained around a 5-9 point advantage throughout. The scrappy Red Storm were led in scoring by Jennifer Shimmin’s eight points. She was helped by six points each by Luci Kane and Arianna Villareal. The Red Storm are (0-2) in the tourney and have tonight off before taking on Galva tomorrow night at 7:30. Elsewhere in Woodhull last night, BPC is (2-0) after beating Ridgewood 60-31 and Knoxville got their tournament started with a 45-24 win over Rockridge. Knoxville got 14 points from Breena Shreeves. Knoxville plays Galva tonight at 7:30.

After both teams getting wins last night at the 34th annual ROWVA/Williamsfield Cranberry Classic, the West Central Heat and Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes will play for the championship tonight in Oneida. The Heat knocked off the host Cougars 53-41. Mady Reed led West Central with 23 points and Carly Lafary chipped in with 15 points. Sadie Lenz was also in double figures for the Heat with 11. The A-Town Tornadoes beat West Prairie 69-26. Brook Piper had 18 and Emma Ginther had 17 to lead the Tornadoes. The (2-0) Heat will play the (2-0) Tornadoes at 6:00 tonight at ROWVA High School for the tournament championship at 6:00. That will be followed by ROWVA/Williamsfield and West Prairie playing at 7:45 for 3rd place.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Thanksgiving Shootout got started last night at John Thiel Gymnasium on the GHS campus. The Silver Streaks defeated Metamora 52-25. Riley Jenkins led Galesburg with 17 points. Kaylee Miller scored 11 points as well for the Streaks, who continue tournament play on Saturday with a 10:30am game vs. Freeport and 7:30pm game va. Springfield.

Junior High

The ICS Trojan junior high basketball teams were at Abingdon-Avon last night. The ICS 7th grade won 44-22 over the Tornadoes. Andrew Way had 11 points and Nick Huston had nine points to lead the Trojans. The ICS 8th grade completed a sweep on the night with a 39-28 victory. Leo Mahoney had 20 points to lead the Trojans. Jake Steele contributed nine points to the win as well.

The West Central Heat junior high girls split a pair of games against North Fulton. The Heat 7th grade fell 23-11. Harlee Hainds had seven point to lead West Central. The West Central 8th grade salvaged a split with a 37-31 win. Shelby Bowman led all scorers for the Heat with 22 points.
