Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Nov. 25, 2019

Basketball

The 11th annual Ridgewood Girls Basketball Thanksgiving Tournament came to a close on Saturday night at Alwood High School in Woodhull. The Monmouth-Roseville Titans and Knoxville Blue Bullets wrote another chapter in their rivalry. It might have been the most exciting game of the season already. The Titans trailed by seven points late in regulation but would come back to get an 86-83 double overtime victory. Carly Gillen, who banked in a 3-pointer late in the 4th quarter, ended the game with 34 points to lead all scorers for Monmouth-Roseville. Lily Cundiff chipped in with 16 points and Kelci Shelton and Ryley Huston were also in double figures for the Titans with 11 and 14 points respectively. Kynley Stearns had 21 points to lead Knoxville. Cassidy Grady and 19 and Breena Shreeves had 17 as well for the Blue Bullets. Also, the United Red Storm fell to Rockridge in the 7th place game, 36-26. Bridget Brokaw had seven point to lead United. BPC knocked off Rockridge in the 3rd place game, 44-34, to end the week with a (4-1) record. It was Mercer County beating Orion 60-34 in the 5th place game and Galva blew out the United Township JV 50-25 for 9th place. The 6-person All-Tournament team included Carly Gillen and Ryley Huston of Monmouth-Roseville and Breena Shreeves and Kynlee Stearns from Knoxville. Also on the team was Karli Stineman of Mercer County and Keirney McDonald for Rockridge.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks split a pair of game in their own Thanksgiving Tournament. The Streaks wiped out Freeport 70-17 on Saturday morning but lost their first game of the tournament to Springfield 50-46 in the nightcap. Kaylee Miller made four, 3-pointers against Freeport for 17 points total. Riley Jenkins had 16 points for Galesburg in the loss to Springfield. The tournament continues on Friday and Saturday.

The Moline Maroons claimed the Macomb Lady Bomber Thanksgiving Tournament. The Maroons won two games on Saturday to run through the tournament at (4-0). Moline’s second win on Saturday was a 71-47 win over the host Bombers. Macomb ended the week at (0-4).

The Fulton County Tournament was won by the Lewistown Lady Indians. Lewistown beat South Fulton 70-53 on Saturday night in the tourney title game.

Stark County’s season is off to a great start. The Rebels won the Princeton Lady Tiger Holiday Tournament, beating Putnam County 43-25 in the final.

Junior High

The 7th grade junior high girls basketball regionals started on Saturday. The United Red Storm beat BPC 36-23 and West Central knocked off South Fulton 31-16 to move into the semi-finals. Tonight’s schedule includes…..
