Sandburg Men Get Votes Once Again in NJCAA Division II Rankings

Share

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team continues to inch its way toward the NJCAA Division II top 20.

This week’s rankings, released Monday afternoon, saw the Chargers (6-1) earn votes for the third consecutive time. Sandburg was one of 16 teams outside of the top 20 that received consideration. The Chargers were seventh among that group, tallying seven points in this week’s voting. That’s up from five points last week and three points the week before that.

Sandburg suffered its first loss of the season over the weekend, but that came at the hands of a nationally ranked opponent in a matchup of unbeaten teams. The Chargers dropped an 80-68 decision Saturday at Milwaukee Area Tech that saw Sandburg trailing just 67-62 with 3:23 to go before the Stormers pulled away. MATC was ranked sixth at the time of the meeting and moved up to No. 4 this week.

The Chargers, who rank fifth nationally in scoring defense at just 61.6 points per game, also earned a 77-71 victory at Illinois College JV last Monday.

Sandburg’s next contest is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against Illinois College JV.
