Balanced Chargers Women’s Basketball Climb Past Hilltoppers With 65-51 Triumph

Three Chargers scored in double figures and another finished a point away from a double-double in the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team’s 65-51 victory over MacMurray JV on Thursday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. Sandburg (6-5) scored the game’s first six points and closed the first half on a 10-0 run to take a 37-14 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Chargers, who never trailed, led by as much as 25 in the second half before a late 11-0 run by the Highlanders. Sophie Whitford, from Macomb, grabbed a team-leading and career-high 11 rebounds for her first double-digit night on the glass as a Chargers. She finished with nine points, with all of them coming on a 3-for-5 effort from 3-point range. Sophomore Cora Neal, from Monmouth-Roseville High School, scored 11.UP NEXT FOR SANDBURG 1 p.m. Saturday vs. 12th-ranked Illinois Central.
