Carol S. Totten, 89, of Alexis, IL, passed away at 10:30 p.m., Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Aperion Care of Galesburg.

She was born on February 25, 1930, the daughter of Joseph L. and Lova (Neil) Sallee of the Coldbrook community.  She grew up on the family farm.

She married William S. Totten on May 28, 1955 at the Coldbrook Christian Church.  She is survived by her husband of 64 years; three sons, Matthew Totten of Galesburg, IL, Timothy (Mary) Totten of Chillicothe, IL, John Totten of Galesburg, IL, and brother, Neil (Dorothy) Sallee of Bloomington, IL.  Also surviving are four grandchildren, Zachary (Kimmie) Totten of Shakopee, MN, Erin Totten of Lithuania, Roman Totten of Savanna, IL, and Amanda Totten of Chillicothe, IL; three great grandsons, Cameron, Maddox, and Harrison Totten, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, J. Rex Sallee. 

Carol attended Science Hall and Tylerville Country school and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1948.  She continued her education at Western Illinois University, graduating in 1952 with her Bachelors Degree in Home Economics.  She taught Home Economics for four years, then returned to teaching elementary classes in the Alexis Community Unit 400, retiring in 1992. 

Carol was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt, always caring for her family.  Her deep faith and personal relationship with the Lord began at the Coldbrook Christian Church.  She was a long-time member of the Alexis United Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women’s Organizations and served as a Deacon for several terms.  She was a member of the Kelly Patches and Pans Units of Warren County, Chapter G PEO, and the former Warren-Henderson County Home Extension.  Carol enjoyed the outdoors, helping with the family greenhouse, cooking, reading, sewing, quilting, knitting, and playing Bridge.  But most of all, she loved all the home and community education of all her family and friends.     

Memorial Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 2019 at the Alexis Presbyterian Church, Alexis, IL.  Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the church.  A private family interment will be in Alexis Cemetery at a later date.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Memorials can be made to the Alexis Presbyterian Church or to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.   McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.  For more information please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com.
