Mrs. Merle Irene Miller, 98, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 6:15 pm Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Merle was born October 21, 1921 in Galesburg the daughter of Herbert and Mildred Bowman. She married James L. Miller on June 26, 1960 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2015.

Merle is survived by her brother, Roger (Donna Jo) Bowman of Galesburg; her niece Greta ( Tom) Hendricks of O’Fallon, Missouri and her nephew, David (Amy) Bowman of Galesburg; great nieces, Anna, Alison Bowman and Sarah (Lucas) Frerichs; great nephews, Andrew Bowman and Tommy Hendricks and two sisters-in-laws, Alice and Hilda Miller.

Merle graduated from Galesburg High School in 1938 and later from Browns Business College. She went on to work as a secretary for Midland Electric Coal Corporation in Farmington, Illinois, Bixby-Zimmer Engineer Company and also W. S. Tyler, Incorporated in Galesburg. Merle enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing and ballroom dancing. She loved a good round of golf and bowling. Merle was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of the Alpha Iota Sorority.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday December 14, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel with the Rev. Frank Langholf officiating. Visitation will be 12:30-1:00 pm Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to a charity of the Donor’s choice.
