Tips for Handling Door to Door Solicitors

Share

The weather is warming up, which means door to door solicitors will be out and about. Monmouth Police Department Investigator Josh Kramer reminds homeowners of not providing them with personal information and not allowing them to come inside your home:

“A few things that you will see with the door to door scammers, one is the home improvement ones. You see that more in the rural areas, they want to talk about asphalting the driveway, fences, siding, and then you get into vacuum sales where they want to come in and show you the great vacuum they are trying to sell and there are usually two or three people that are involved in those. While they are doing their demonstration the other person is usually going through and ransacking your house. There are people out there that are legit with electric cares. A lot of times they will ask for a little more information than what I would ever give, whether it is to see your Ameren bill, move away from not engaging with them and definitely calling the police department or City Hall to see if they do have a solicitors license.”

If a solicitor does show up at your door and you are unable to get them to leave your property, you can call authorities to have them removed.
