No. 12 Cougars Pull Away From Sandburg Women in 2nd Half

Nationally ranked Illinois Central used a flurry at the third quarter to pull away and defeat the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team 76-51 on Saturday afternoon at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. The Chargers, now (6-6) overeall, scored the final five points of the first half to go into the locker room down just 32-26. Sandburg remained within single digits of the 12th-ranked Cougars at 39-31 with 5:45 left in the third quarter, but ICC scored 17 of the final 19 in the period to extend its lead to 56-33. Freshman Kelsi Legge, from Galesburg, scored a team-best 11 poinst, including a 3-for-4 effort from downtown. Legge also led the Chargers with three steals and had three assists. Cora Neal, from Monmouth-Roseville, also went 3 of 4 from long distance while finishing with 10 points. UP NEXT FOR SANDBURG is 1:00 game tomorrow afternoon vs. McHenry County.
