Barbara J. Crouse, 92, of Galesburg, Illinois died 12:32 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, Illinois.
She was born November 16, 1927 in Peoria, Illinois to George W. and Maxine (Underwood) Mead. She married Harry J. Crouse November 23, 1946 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death March 11, 2002.
Surviving are three sons, William G. (and Paula) Crouse of Texas City, Texas, Harry J. Crouse, Jr. of Kilgore, Texas, and Robert W. (and LeAnn) Crouse of Galesburg, a brother, Thomas W. Mead of Galesburg, two sisters, Mary Alice Norris of Modesto, California and Sue Ann Hoskins of Galesburg, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.
Barbara graduated from Galesburg High School in 1945. She worked for the former Frankles Women’s Apparel in Galesburg for two years. She was an interior designer for Carriage House in Galesburg for 12 years and retired in November of 1987. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. She was a member of United Transportation Union Ladies Auxiliary, Galesburg P.T.A., and Lake Bracken Country Club. She volunteered at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and was an election judge for several years. Barbara enjoyed traveling, playing Bingo and loved playing games with her family.
Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Rev. Linda Baldwin will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg.
