Eldred Allen Crain, age 68, of Monmouth passed away at OSF St.Francis
Medical Center in Peroia, Illinois on Saturday January 18, 2020 at
12:41pm. Alan was born on July 5, 1951 in Monmouth and is the son of
Eldred E. and Mary Lois Sage. Alan was raised in Monmouth and attended
Harding school, Central Jr. High, and Monmouth High School. Alan married
Vicki J. Hardesty on January 16, 1971 in Monmouth, Illinois and she is
surviving. Alan began work with the City of Monmouth in Maintenance and
also served several years as an officer on the Monmouth Police Force.
Alan has been employed as a maintenance man at numerous local nursing
homes in the area and later at Gates Rubber Company in Galesburg before
they closed. Lastly he did maintenance at the Holliday Inn Express in
Galesburg, Illinois. Alan was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and loved
baseball. He loved classic cars and the local car show. He was known as
the family comedian and loved his family and friends. In later years
Alan loved to go to the casino. He is survived by his wife, Vickie of
Monmouth, and four sisters, Alice Hull of Monmouth, Sharon Gorman and
Chet of Monmouth, Joyce Malcom and David of Monmouth, and Laurie Ramos and Leo of Monmouth, Illinois. There are three brothers surviving,
Darrell “Butch” Crain and Martha of Kirkwood, Lennie Bell and Diane of
Kirkwood, and Randy Bell and Barb of Monmouth, Illinos. He is preceded
in death by his parents, one niece, and one nephew.
A graveside service for the committal of his ashes is planned at 11:00 am on Saturday January 25, 2020 at Monmouth Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established by his family. For more information or to leave a remembrance of Alan please visit www.turnbullfuneralhome.com.
