Leo A. Cash Jr., 95, of Galesburg, died at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in the Hawthorne Inn.

He was born May 7, 1924, in Aledo, Illinois, the son of Leo A. and Marjorie E. (Smith) Cash Sr.  He married Margaret E. Salter on September 3, 1955, at the First Presbyterian Church of Galesburg.  She preceded him in death on December 21, 2016, after 61 years of marriage.

He is survived by two children, Mary (Doug) Johnson of Dublin, Ohio and Paul (Amy) Cash of Hinsdale, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Eric (Madison), Alex, Elizabeth, Courtney, Patrick, Frances, and Colin; and a great grandson, Bennett.  In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Clarke on December 30, 2019.

After graduating from Roseville High School in 1942, Leo entered the United States Army Air Corps, serving during World War II.  After his honorable discharge, he went on to attend Knox College, graduating in 1947.  Leo was a banker, serving as Executive Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer of United Federal Savings and Loan for more than 35 years before retiring.

Leo was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years, serving as an elder and deacon.  He was also a member of the Galesburg Noon Lions Club and the Alpha Masonic Lodge.  Leo was an avid golfer, he went for a walk nearly every day, and he loved to read.

Cremation will be accorded.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Private family burial will be with Margaret in Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leo’s name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Jack E. Larson Endowment Fund at the Galesburg Community Foundation to be used for the Shoe Fund.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
