Mrs. Mary E. Hood, 87, of Galesburg, died at 9:52 a.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at home.

She was born February 19, 1932, in Galesburg, the daughter of Leo and Merle (Barbero) Epley. She married the love of her life, Russell Leo Hood on November 5, 1954, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death April 30, 1999.

She is survived by a son, Thomas E. Hood of Galesburg. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Mary owned and operated, with her husband and son, M & M Ceramics for 20 years, retiring in December of 1999. She was raised and educated in Abingdon, graduating from Abingdon High School in 1950. She attended Western Illinois Teacher’s College, Macomb, Illinois.

Mary was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Session Member and was a Sunday school teacher for 20 years. She was also a member and past president of the MG Chapter of PEO and a member of Home Culture Club. Mary was a reading buddy for Nielson School for four years.

Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Leigh Nygard officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary and Russell Hood’s name to First Presbyterian Church, Shriners Children’s Hospita,l or A.S.P.C.A. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
