The City of Monmouth currently owns 7 acres of land off Jackson Avenue. This area has seen significant interest by developers who would like to convert the land into a housing development. In order to have the proper zoning for housing development, the current zoning must be changed from B-2 Neighborhood Commercial to R-3 High-Density Residential. This item was presented at last week’s Planning Commission meeting and has been forwarded to City Council with a recommendation for approval. Mayor Rod Davies reported to WRAM/WMOI “The City will be trying to accommodate requests for single family homes and possibly duplexes for multi-family homes” as part of this development. A motion was made for approval and was approved at Monday night’s City Council meeting.
