Freshman guard Destiny Allen (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) had a perfect shooting night to help the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team pull away in the second half to beat Kishwaukee 60-45 on Thursday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium for the Chargers’ first Arrowhead Conference victory.
KEY MOMENTS
- Up 14-11 in the second, a 3-pointer from freshman Kelsi Legge (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) sparked a 9-0 run that lifted the Chargers (8-12, 1-1) to their first double-digit lead. Sandburg went into halftime ahead 33-22.
- The Chargers opened the second half with seven straight points and 15 of the first 18 to extend their lead to 48-25, their largest of the night. Sophomore guard Hailey Lovetinsky (Overland Park, Kan./Spring Hill) kicked off the half with a trey, followed by a step-back jumper.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Allen scored a season-best 12 points for the Chargers on a flawless 5-of-5 shooting from the floor. Allen also knocked down her only two free-throw attempts of the contest.
OTHER TOP CHARGERS
- Sophomore forward Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) had a game-best 13 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals as Sandburg forced 33 Kishwaukee (5-10, 0-3) turnovers.
- Lovetinsky had nine points, five steals, two blocks and two assists.
- Sophomore Sophie Whitford (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) was held scoreless but contributed a game-high nine rebounds, all on the defensive end.
