Monmouth’s Justin Batterton (Astoria, Ill./South Fulton) stepped up when the Scots needed it most and was rewarded with the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week honor in men’s basketball.

Batterton came up big in a pair of wins last week to keep Monmouth tied for second in the Midwest Conference. The senior forward scored a double-double in last Wednesday’s 99-89 win at Grinnell, the Scots’ eighth win in nine games against the Pioneers. Batterton pumped in 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting and pulled 11 rebounds, eight of them off the defensive glass, while also dishing out a game-high six assists. Batterton added another 16 points in Saturday’s 88-78 win over Lawrence, hitting exactly half his shots from the field, serving up another four assists and recording a game-high three steals. For the week Batterton averaged 16.5 points on 15-of-28 (.536) shooting and 7.5 rebounds per game while totaling eight assists and five steals.

A business major, Batterton is the son of Bill Batterton.
