Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys and girls basketball teams rarely play on the same night but with the Titan boy’s basketball game against West Hancock getting postponed earlier in the season, that’s what happened last night. The Titan boys were hosting West Hancock at the Shoebox at Monmouth-Roseville High School, while the Titan girls were on the road wrapping up their regular season schedule in Macomb against the Bombers. The Titan boys were (11-10) and were looking for a signature win heading into regional seeding night next week. That’s exactly what they got against visiting West Hancock, who entered the game with an (18-5) overall record and at one time were receiving votes in the Class 2A AP poll. Monmouth-Roseville’s Conner Olson got his team off to a great start, hitting three, 3-pointers as the hometown Titans led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter. They would keep the lead at seven, 29-22 at the halftime break. West Hancock’s all-stater Drake Hammel tried to single-handedly get the visiting Titans back in the game in the second half but Monmouth-Roseville outscored West Hancock 20-14 in the 4th quarter to post a 60-45 win. Rashaun King led Monmouth-Roseville with 26 points, 15 coming in the second half. Olson ended the night with 13 as well for Monmouth-Roseville. Hammel led West Hancock with 19 points.
