Galesburg Community Development Director Announced

The City of Galesburg has selected Ryan Berger to fill the position of Community Development Director. Berger is anticipated to begin his role with the City the week of March 23, 2020.

“Ryan brings experience, enthusiasm, and new ideas to the table, and I look forward to working with him as the City’s Community Development Director,” said City Manager Todd Thompson.

Berger has over 11 years of professional experience in community and economic development, including serving as the Land Development Manager for the City of Moline, Illinois; the Planning and Redevelopment Administrator for the City of Rock Island, Illinois; and the Community Development Director for the City of Groveland, Florida. His educational background includes a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Eastern Illinois University and a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Ball State University.

“I’m honored to have been selected to fill the position of Community Development Director for the City of Galesburg,” said Berger. “I look forward to learning more about the department, strengthening the goals and mission set forth, and becoming involved in the community.”

Programs and services provided by the Community Development Department include planning, zoning, housing programs, inspections, code enforcement, and coordination of the refuse and transit contracts. A comprehensive search was conducted to fill this position, including a final interview with the search panel. The Community Development Director is appointed by the City Manager and is responsible for the administration and oversight of the Community Development Department.
