Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb. 27, 2020

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys basketball season came to an end last night at the hands of the Orion Chargers. The Chargers led at the end of every quarter and moved on to the class 2A Mercer County Regional championship with a 73-60 win. Orion shot a blistering 50% from 3-point range in the game, making a total of 11 triples. Monmouth-Roseville ends their season at (15-14) and were led by Conner Olson with 17 points, Quincy Talivaa with 15 and Rashaun King with 12 points. Josh Johnson had 19 to lead Orion in scoring. The Chargers improve to (21-9) overall and will take on Rockridge tomorrow night at 7:00 at Mercer County High School in Aledo. (26-5) Rockridge eliminated Alleman 53-46 on Tuesday night.

The Knoxville Blue Bullets’ successful season came to an end in the Rock Falls 2A regional last night as well. The Blue Bullets held Rock Falls to no field goals and just nine points from the free throw line in the fourth quarter but dug themselves too big of a hole in the first half and fell 62-55. Knoxville finishes the year at (21-9). They were led in scoring last night by Jason and David Hise with 11 points. Jake Repp also tallied 11 points as well for the Bullets.

In the class 2A Pleasant Plains regional, West Hancock held a 50-25 lead in the 3rd quarter before Auburn would fight back to send the game to overtime. After the second overtime, Auburn came all the way back for a 70-69 victory. West Hancock senior Drake Hammel fouled out of the game with 4:39 left in the 4th quarter. He led West Hancock with 21 points before leaving.

In class 1A regional semi-finals, the United Red Storm and Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes tangled in the Galva regional. A-Town led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter and 23-20 at the half. The Tornadoes would hold on in the second half and move on to the regional finals with a 46-37 win. Declan Flynn led United in a losing cause with 16 points. Ryan Adolphson had 14 for Abingdon-Avon. United ends the year with a program record 20 wins and 11 losses. A-Town improves to (24-7) and will play (20-7) Peoria Quest tomorrow night at 7:00 at Galva High School. The winner will move on to the Lewistown sectional next week. We’ll have coverage of the A-Town/Quest match up tomorrow night with our AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM pregame show starting at 6:45. Quest ended Ridgewood’s year in the first semi-final last night, 57-53.

At the Princeville class 1A regional, the host Princes lost to Elmwood 54-48 and it was Peoria Christian over Peoria Heights 62-47. Elmwood and Christian do battle tomorrow night at Princeville High School for the championship.
