GRINNELL, Iowa – The Midwest Conference released the Men’s Basketball All-Conference Team on Thursday morning.

Monmouth’s Justin Batterton (Astoria, Ill./South Fulton) had the best season of his Fighting Scots’ career as a senior and was rewarded with his first All-Midwest Conference selection in a vote of the league’s coaches.

Named to the second team, Batterton averaged over 13 points and six rebounds a game – both career-highs – in his final season. The forward was especially effective on the glass, where he led the team in total rebounds (151), defensive rebounds (119) and offensive rebounds (32). His 126 field goals, 81 free throws and 106 trips to the line were also Monmouth highs this season. A 55 percent field goal shooter, Batterton shot over 76 percent from the line. Playing in all 25 games, he scored double figures 14 times with a high of 29 in a Scots victory in late January.

Ethan Meeker represents the Knox College Prairie Fire on the second team and was also honored as the Newcomer of the Year for the conference.

Meeker finished among the league leaders with 17.0 points per game (6th), 3.4 assists per game (4th), 1.5 steals per game (6th). He helped lead Knox to nine victories, the most since the 2005-06 season.

“Ethan got better as the season went on,” said head coach Ben Davis. “Every game he gained more confidence and it really showed at the end of the season. We asked a lot of Ethan this season and he responded in every aspect. To put up the offensive numbers that he did while also handling the majority of the point guard duties was simply amazing. At times he completely took over the game.”

Recognized for their tremendous sportsmanship throughout the season, the Prairie Fire were also honored with the Team Sportsmanship Award.
