Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 23rd, 2020:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Rashaun King. In a pair of games last week, Rashaun averaged 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds. He also handed out nearly 3 assists per game. Rashaun was also tough on the defensive end, getting two steals and had two important shot blocks in a win over Macomb.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is freshman boys swimmer, Ethan Elswick. Ethan participated in his first IHSA Sectional meet at Rock Island High School. He placed 16th in the 200 yard freestyle race. Ethan then attempted the always-tough double up of the 500 yard freestyle event, where he took 17th place overall.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Brayden Vancil. Brayden contributed to a pair of wins last week for the Heat. He scored eight points in a non-conference win over West Prairie. Brayden was even better in a Lincoln Trail Conference victory over Stark County, hitting double digits with ten points. For the week, he averaged 8.5 points in three ballgames.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Ryan Adolphson. Ryan put up a double-double of 11 points and ten rebounds in a Prairieland Conference North Division clinching win over Brimfield last week. He poured in 12 points in a loss to a quality Rushville/Industry ball club later in the week.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior boys swimmer, Jared Shipp. Jared ended his high school swimming career with a solid performance at the Rock Island Sectional meet. He placed 4th in the 100 yard butterfly. Jared was also a part of the 4th place finishing 400 freestyle relay team. For good measure, he took a top-10 in the 50 freestyle even, placing 8th.
