Story by Kadin Rogers

The West Central softball team is currently having yet another successful season as we head into the final month of the softball regular season. The Heat hold an 18-2 record overall, and 13-2 mark in the Lincoln Trail Conference, as they chase another deep postseason run. This level of success is certainly not unknown to this West Central roster, as the Heat have had back to back seasons with 28+ wins, as well as two straight appearances in sectional championship games. In 2022, the Heat’s run was cut short in super-sectionals by Forreston, while in 2023 the Heat fell in the sectional championship to the eventual champion Peru St Bede Lady Bruins. Shelby Bowman has been with the team for all of their recent runs, and of course has received much publicity for her play on the basketball court during the winter sports season. While Bowman has spent much of her time on the diamond this spring, she has also been setting up her path to a D1 college basketball career, signing a letter of intent to play for Western Illinois University. West Central High School Athletic Director Joel Zaiser has more on Bowman’s big decision.

West Central softball is scheduled to get back on the diamond on Thursday at home against Mercer County. The Heat are hosting a class 1A regional this year, they will play the winner of United vs Bushnell-Prairie City.
