Story by Kadin Rogers
(SPRING VALLEY, ILL). The Monmouth-Roseville Titans football resumed action in the 2026 season on Friday night, taking the 2 hour bus ride up north for a Three Rivers Conference Mississippi division battle with the Spring Valley Hall Red Devils. Coming off a division opening loss last weekend at home at the hands of the Princeton Tigers, the Titans were looking to right the ship in the midway point of the season, and M-R was able to take a nice step forward with a 30-14 win.
A very quick first half of the ball game saw the Titans starting the game off on the right foot, as a big run from senior back Lars Bergren would set up the games first score, as quarterback Kane Johnson found the aforementioned Bergren for a 37 yard touchdown pass. Landon Montroy would punch in the 2 point conversion to put the Titans up 8-0 early. The Red Devils was able however to find an immediate response on the next drive, as Gage Olson hit tight end Chace Sterling in stride for a 54 yard touchdown to put Spring Valley Hall on the board at 8-6. With time winding down in the first quarter, the Titans offense beat the buzzer with 11 seconds left, as Landon Montroy rumbled in from 4 yards away, and Lars Bergren got in on the 2 point try to put Monmouth-Roseville up 16-6 after one full quarter of play. A scoreless second quarter almost had two touchdowns from Bergren, however both scores were wiped out by penalties, as both teams would head into the halftime break still at 16-6 in favor of M-R.
A kick out of bounds on the second half kickoff by the Red Devils would give the Titans great starting field position to open up the third quarter. Quarterback Kane Johnson would keep it himself from 5 yards out on that same drive to extend the Titans lead to 22-6 with 7 minutes to go in the third. On the ensuing Red Devils drive, they faced a 4th and 1 from their own 40, and they not only converted that, but Jaxon Weger would take it all the way to the house for a 60 yard score, while Chace Sterling caught the two point conversion to get Hall within one score heading into the final quarter. Monmouth-Roseville needed to put some distance between them and Hall, and that’s what they did with 10 minutes to go in the game, as Johnson found sophomore receiver Andrew Snyder for a 23 yard touchdown to put Monmouth-Roseville up two scores. The Titans defense would answer the call in the final 10 minutes of the game, shutting down the Red Devils offense to secure the 30-14 win.
Titans Statbook: Quarterback Kane Johnson had a very efficient night through the air, as both of his pass completions found their way to the endzone. On the ground, Landon Montroy finished with 136 yards and a touchdown on 23 attempts while Lara Bergren added 100 yards on just 8 carries. The now 2-3 Titans will look to get to .500 on the season next Friday night, with another 2 hour road trip up north, this time against the Mendota Trojans.
