Western Illinois Softball: Leathernecks Wrap Up Rambler Rumble

Share

ROSEMONT, Ill.- Western Illinois (1-4) softball concluded its stay at the Rambler Rumble with an 8-0 setback against Butler (4-1) on Sunday (Feb. 9).

The Bulldogs got off to a tremendous start by plating four runs in the bottom of the first, capped by a two-run homer to left field by Karli Ricketts. Butler tacked on another run for a 5-0 advantage after Loren Simpson lined a double down the left field line.

Western’s best chance to get on the board came in the top of the fifth when Meghan Henson drew a leadoff walk and Sydney Hollings singled with nobody out. Back-to-back hard lineouts ended the threat.

Elyse Babb capped off a three-run Butler bottom of the fifth with an RBI triple to dead center that served as a walk-off ending the contest in five innings.

Savannah Rodriguez (0-1) pitched the entire game and recorded three strikeouts.

The Leathernecks travel to Waco, Texas, for the Getterman Classic Feb. 14-16 facing the likes of Prairie View A&M, Grand Canyon and host Baylor.
