Debra (Debby) D. Hannam, age 68, of Dahinda, Illinois passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on October 20, 1951 in Moline, Illinois the daughter of Perry D. and Shirley A. (Johnson) Weir, Jr.  She grew up on her family’s farm near Rio, Illinois and was a graduate of ROVA High School. She attended Illinois State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Education. She married Wayne R. Hannam on April 14, 1973 at the Rio Presbyterian Church in Rio, Illinois.

Debby leaves behind her husband, Wayne Hannam of Dahinda, Illinois; two children: Angela (Matt) Gibson of Knoxville, Illinois and Matt (Allison) Hannam of Downers Grove, Illinois; four grandchildren: Mitchell and Lexi Gibson of Knoxville, Illinois and Kate and Lauren Hannam of Downers Grove, Illinois; her siblings, Darla (John) Cratty of Galesburg, Illinois and Daryl (Cheryl) Weir of Knoxville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Debby was a dedicated teacher that cherished the relationships she built with her students and fellow faculty members. She began her career as a high school business teacher at Yorkwood High School, before spending most of her teaching career at ROVA High School. After teaching she worked in Human Resources at the former Maytag in Galesburg, Illinois.

Faith and family were the pillars in her life.  She was a member of the Rio Presbyterian Church, former Oneida United Methodist Church, Bethany Lutheran Church of Woodhull, and currently the Dahinda United Methodist Church. She was an active church member where she shared her love and talent for music as an organist, pianist and member of the choir and bell choir.  Debby was happiest when she was with her family and friends.  She loved the outdoors enjoying gardening and boating at Oak Run.  Her children’s and grandchildren’s activities were rarely missed.  All were enjoyed with Wayne, the love of her life.  

A private family service will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2020 at the Rio Baptist Cemetery in Rio, Illinois. Rev. Teri Shane officiating.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Dahinda United Methodist Church or the Rio Presbyterian Church.  Per the family, memorials can be sent to Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home at 120 South Public Square, Knoxville, Illinois 61448.  Online condolences and expressions of sympathy may be made through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
