Jean F. Hopson, age 87, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 8:57 PM on
Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Illinois. She was born on June 7, 1932 in Monmouth, Illinois, the
daughter of Terrance W. and Frances (Burns) Gavin. Jean attended
Farmer’s Academy and was a graduate of Monmouth High School. On December 14, 1970, she married Richard D. Hopson in Moline, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on October 30, 2012. Jean worked for Illinois
Banker Life, the Edward Arthur Melinger Foundation, and was the organist
at Meling’s Restaurant in Monmouth. She was a co-owner of Hopson Sales
and Service in Raritan, Illinois with her husband. Jean was a member of
the American Shorthorn Association and the Midwest Oliver Collectors.
She enjoyed country music, Ray Price, Chicago Cubs baseball, and her
collie’s; Lassie, Lacy, Shar, and Missie. Mostly, Jean loved family
gatherings and watching sports.

Jean is survived by two daughters, Julie Hopson of Coal Valley, Illinois
and Jane Hopson of Downs, Illinois. She is also survived by many nieces,
nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Jean is preceded in death by
her parents, husband Richard, three sisters; Mary Smith, Dolly Lefort,
and Helen Irey, and one brother, Bill Gavin.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at
St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Monmouth, Illinois. A Celebration of
Jean’s Life and Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Memorials
may be left to Immaculate Conception School in Monmouth or the Midwest
