Sen. Tracy Asks Governor to Open Some State Parks

State Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) is asking Gov. J.B. Pritzker to allow some Illinois residents to make use of State Parks, especially now that the Governor has announced his intention to keep non-essential businesses and schools closed for another month.

Tracy said the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) should be allowed to reopen those portions of Illinois State Parks where adequate social distancing and other safety measures can be practiced. This request would be confined to those counties where local officials have indicated they believe it is safe to do so.

“This request will obviously not be possible for some parts of our state that are hard hit by COVID-19,” Tracy said. “However, there are some regions of Illinois where residents could make use of the State Parks resources for health, recreational, and educational purposes — as long as they observe appropriate public health precautions.”

The 47th District Senator says constituents would welcome the opportunity to safely visit their local State Parks, but it would be made clear to them that state and local authorities could, and would, enforce any violations of the strict safety precautions needed to help contain the COVID-19 virus.
