August 3rd Target Date for Strom Center Reopening to Public

The Strom Center doors remain closed to the public at this time. Services are still being handled over the phone or by Facetime and emergency services are addressed in person by appointment only, says Director Carol McCrery:

“If you have an emergency service, certainly we will let you come in. Those are for emergency appointments, people that are first signing up for Medicare, so they don’t miss deadlines. Although now there have been some situations that Social Security and Medicare have put in place that if you are late in enrolling, there are some stipulations that you can apply for some relief in those programs. Now people can come in for programs, such as benefit access, which is reduced license applications for homestead exemption; however, we have to have made appointments first. There are no walk-ins for any reason,” McCrery states.

Strom Center is targeting to reopen to the public on Monday, August 3rd.

Before the pandemic began, Strom Center had implemented a Social Isolation Program, where volunteers make a daily call to persons wanting a call from outside their home. McCrery has more:

“There are no eligibility requirements, except that we do want them to be seniors, although we have some that are not seniors. It is such an awesome program and we have so many people that are being called every day and it is just proving to be a huge, huge asset to the community. Word of mouth has gotten around just to have people check up on them,” McCrery shares.

To receive a daily call or become a volunteer caller, contact Ann Liby at 734-5677.

Donations to the Strom Center Thrift Store are being limited through July 3rd, McCrery shares:

“We will accept donations, but no truckloads of donations. We prefer the lesser the better. Just since there isn’t anything going out and we are getting these things coming in, we are getting pretty full of a lot of the items. So no truckloads will be allowed,” states McCrery.

Donations will be taken Monday through Friday 9 am to 3 or call 309-224-8657.
